    报告摘要:

As the demands for energy supplies are growing, there is a pressing need to develop high-performance, sustainable and low cost energy storage systems. The supercapacitors (SCs), lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), and sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) can efficiently store and deliver electrical energy and current. The electrochemical performances of SCs, LIBs and SIBs are intimately depended on their electrode materials. However, current electrode materials face the problems of structure degradation, low conductivity, and volume variation during cycling. To overcome these challenges, efforts have been placed on the development of the novel electrochemical active materials with higher capacitance and longer cycling stability for SCs, LIBs and SIBs applications. In this talk, alternative designs and routes in the fabrications of nanostructure electrode materials with superior electrochemical properties will be presented. For examples: CoO/carbon electrode exhibited excellent specific capacitance of 648 Fg-1 for SC, Fe3O4/carbon@graphene foam composite electrode for the use as LIB anode delivered a reversible capacity of 1112 mA h g-1 after 200 cycles, and SnO2/activated carbon fiber anode showed superior stability over 200 cycles for SIBs. The processes involved in the making of electrodes for these devices were bio-inspired and included the use of chlorella algae, e-coli bacteria, and cotton fibers.

    主讲简介:

Dickon H L. Ng (吳恒亮) received his PhD from the Department of Physics at the University of Manitoba (Canada). He completed two years of postdoctoral work in the Department of Materials at the University of Oxford before joining the Physics Department at the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1991. He was the Associate Dean (Students Affairs) in the Faculty of Science from 2008 to 2015 before appointed the Chairman of the Physics Department from 2015 to 2018. His current interests include biomorphic materials for photo-catalysis, water treatments, and energy storage devices.
